Biography
Ziyang Huang is a young Erhu artist based in London, dedicated to blending traditional Chinese music with various global music elements, with a particular focus on innovative explorations in Erhu performance. She graduated with distinction from the China Conservatory of Music (CCOM) in 2021, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Music. She later completed her Master’s degree at the UCL Institute of Education in London. Ziyang Huang regularly performs both traditional and modern music around the world, especially in Europe and Asia, having held concerts in over 10 countries and 30 cities.


Artistic Achievements and Performance History

Ziyang Huang demonstrated exceptional artistic talent from a young age. She began practicing Chinese dance at the age of two and developed a love for the Erhu at four. After a year of self-study, she entered music competitions and was discovered by the renowned Erhu professor at CCOM, Professor Zhu. He praised her musical expression, describing it as passionate and delicate, and invited her to become his student. At the age of eight, Ziyang Huang was admitted to the China Conservatory of Music, earning the title of “2008 Little Music Prodigy.” Over the following 13 years, she received numerous scholarships throughout her academic journey and served as the concertmaster of the China Youth Symphony Orchestra. She was also the chair of an autism charity and represented CCOM in multiple domestic and international cultural exchange programs.

From 2021 to 2022, Huang Ziyang toured several cities across China, showcasing Erhu art, and completed her Master’s degree at the UCL Institute of Education in 2023.


Performances and Cross-Disciplinary Collaborations

Ziyang Huang has won first prize in several international music competitions across various categories. She has held numerous masterclasses and performed in cities worldwide, including Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Paris, and London. She was selected as the resident artist at the Chinese Embassy in the UK, where she conveyed Chinese culture through Erhu melodies.

Her performances have graced the most prestigious venues globally, such as London’s Barbican Centre, Milton Court, Beijing’s National Centre for the Performing Arts, and Beijing Concert Hall. Her music is beloved by audiences worldwide, and she has performed at renowned locations like Westminster Hall, Oxford University’s New Theatre, and Cambridge University’s Trinity College.

Additionally, Ziyang Huang has collaborated with several prominent music brands, recording music for the TATE Modern’s 2023 exhibition “Good Mourning Earth” and releasing an album, Liao, in collaboration with Sony Music. She has also recorded works for CCTV Music Channel and served as an artistic director for Tsinghua University’s traditional music ensemble, while also participating as a judge for Peking University’s singing competition.
